Mattawa Shop with a Cop
EMRY DINMAN | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 6 years, 1 month AGO
Mattawa will be holding its first annual Shop with a Cop event Dec. 22, with support from members of the Mattawa Police Department and community.
The event serves as an opportunity for law enforcement officers to develop positive relationships with the children of families with financial needs. Officers will pair up with a limited number of children in the community to shop for Christmas presents at the Moses Lake Walmart, get those presents wrapped, and recoup with a light meal and conversation.
The amount of youth able to participate in the event is dependent on the amount of donations received by the city. The event is being organized by local resident Tony Acosta, who is currently soliciting donations to help facilitate the event. Donations can be tendered to the Mattawa Area Chamber of Commerce. For more information, contact the chamber at 509-831-0033.
Donations can also be made at Corvid Coffee in Mattawa, which will also be donating 50 cents for every customer during this week, said owner Amanda Rivera.
