Noxon extended its varsity boys’ basketball mark to 4-0 with a pair of victories last week.

On Tuesday, the Red Devils rolled to a 60-44 win over the Clark Fork, Idaho, Wampus Cats, paced by Rylan Weltz’s double-digit scoring and rebounding.

Noxon build a 12-point halftime lead over St. Regis in Friday’s 14C Conference opener in Noxon, and cruised to a 53-34 victory.

The Red Devils host Troy on Friday, then play a conference game Saturday at Two Eagle River in Pablo. Varsity game time is 7 p.m. for both games.

Rylan Weltz continued his scoring prowess, netting 29 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for another double-double against Clark Fork. “Rylan is starting to play a little bit bigger and is more aggressive to the rim,” Red Devils head coach Bart Haflich said. “He kind of carried us.”

Alex Currie added nine points, and Owen Fisher had seven. Logan Wood dished out 10 assists.

Haflich talked about the early going of the St. Regis game. “We got off to a slow start, but we played better the last three quarters. We threw a press on a little bit and it kind of got us jump-started. We got into the paint a little more.”

Weltz supplied another double-double with 20 points and 10 boards. Wood had 13 points.

“We rebounded the ball better (against St. Regis),” Haflich said, as Levi Brubaker had 11 boards, Jeriko Smith nine and Currie seven. “We rebounded and crashed the glass pretty well.”
