Peggy’s journey finally ended peacefully on December 11, 2018, her 90th birthday when she went home to be with her Lord and Savior. It was the ultimate birthday present.

Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at the Lakeview Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Smith officiating. A reception will follow at the Lakeview Funeral Home.

Peggy was born on December 11, 1928 in Orange, California, to Claude and Marietta Nelson. She met Cecil Knowles during high school while she was working as a car hop at Ray and Mary’s. They married on September 19, 1944, in San Diego.

They lived in Santa Anna and Costa Mesa, before moving to Sandpoint, Idaho, in 1961. She worked as a checker at Safeway and at M&J, were she was known as Big Red! They spent nine years in Alaska.

Upon retiring, they moved back to Sandpoint and enjoyed wintering in their RV in Arizona and traveling the United States, then finally moved to Arizona.

When widowed Peggy moved back to Sandpoint and made Alpine Vista her new home, making many friends there.

She enjoyed spending time with Cecil, hunting, shooting, bowling or dancing. They loved to square dance, were active in the Circle and Swing Square Dance Club, and helped host the State Square Dance Jamboree in Sandpoint. She also enjoyed sewing, especially her square dance dresses. She was an avid swimmer, swimming with the masters group at the health club, and at age 69 swam the Long Bridge Swim finishing first in her age group.

She is survived by three children, Patricia Bocian of Caldwell, John (Janice) Knowles of Sandpoint, and Mike (Debbie) Knowles of Sandpoint; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Cecil Knowles in 2008, son Bob Knowles in 2013, and one sister Betty Vest.
