PEO shopping spree aids soup kitchen

Handing off the win for the Yokes Fresh Market Shopping Spree, PEO sisters gathered to award Marilyn Chambers money for the Gardenia Centers Rainbow Soup Kitchen. Instead of actually doing the shopping spree, they requested a set amount of money for the soup kitchen.

They were twice blessed when the $200 Yoke’s gift certificate winner, Sally Loury decided she wanted her win to be given to the Rainbow Soup Kitchen. The group will be making a lot of soup this year with all their winnings. The soup kitchen, which is going on its 30th year, welcomes the community every Wednesday for a soup meal from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Chambers and her helpers are known for the extra special care of listening and helping those who choose to come to the kitchen. They go the extra mile in their caring for those in need.

P.E.O. Chapter CA is a philanthropic organization where women celebrate advancement of women, and educate women through scholarships, grants, loans etc.

Members said the group wants to see women motivate each other to achieve their highest aspirations. The great news for all of us is this local chapter plans to do another Yoke’s shopping spree starting in the late spring.
