A large camper all but melted into a puddle and an adjacent home was heavily damaged in a fire on First Avenue South in Hungry Horse Monday afternoon.

No one was injured in the blaze. Neighbors said they heard about a dozen “pop” sounds and saw the camper on fire, which then spread to the adjacent home.

Firefighters from Hungry Horse and Martin City quickly responded to the blaze. The fire was only a block away from the Hungry Horse fire station.

Apparently people were living in the camper, but neighbors said it depended on the time of day just how many were living there.

Both structures were apparently rentals owned by the same landowner. A third trailer home on the lot was undamaged.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and firefighters were still on the scene late Monday afternoon.
