The Libby Asbestos Superfund Advisory Team will meet Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 1:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in Libby at the Lincoln County Courthouse and in Helena in the Ponderosa Room of the Montana Department of Environmental Quality’s (DEQ) Cedar Street Building at 1225 Cedar St. Attendees also may participate remotely by phone and online.

The Team was established by the 2017 Legislature to enhance communication among stakeholders of the Libby Asbestos Superfund Cleanup. In addition, the Team will advise DEQ on administration of the Libby Asbestos Cleanup Trust Fund and operation and maintenance accounts. As cleanup nears its end in many of the Operable Units of the Libby Asbestos Site, Montana DEQ and EPA will work with the Team and the community to establish institutional controls and define operations and maintenance activities appropriate to protect the cleanup in Libby.

The agenda will include electing a new chair to replace former chair and DEQ Director Tom Livers, 2019 legislation and the opportunity for public comment. Information about the currently scheduled meeting, team members and past meetings (including agendas, approved minutes and documents) may be found at: http://deq.mt.gov/DEQAdmin/dir/libby/SATeam
