Green leads Mountain Cat grapplers at Corvallis tourney

Superior’s Trey Green took home first place in The Glen Brawley Wrestling Tournament held in Corvallis on Saturday, Dec. 15.
Green, the fifth-ranked Class B-C wrestlersat 182-pounds in the latest 406mtsports.com coaches poll, pinned Hunter Pittsley of Polson for the championship. Alberton/Superior Clark Fork Mountain Cats co-op teammate Wes Buchanan was sixth–ranked in the coaches poll at 132 pounds.
At the tournament, Jake Calloway earned second place at 145 pounds, and Jacob Lapinski walked away with third place in the heavyweight (285) division. Also on the scoreboard was Thomas Anderson in fourth place at 152, and Kyler Francis in fourth at 170.
Overall, Clark Fork placed sixth among the 12 competing teams. Mission/Charlo placed first with 133 points; Salmon, Idaho, second, 125.5; Big Sky JV third, 121; Corvallis fourth, 115; Frenchtown, 103.5; Deer Lodge seventh, 83; Sentinel JV eighth, 74; Eureka ninth, 61; Stevensville 10th, 59; Polson 11th, 54; and Arlee 12th, 36.
St. Regis tops Clark Fork in hoops; Charlo beats Tiger teams
The St. Regis Tigers traveled to Charlo on Friday, Dec. 14 with a double loss to the Vikings. The boys were tied 28-28 going into the fourth quarter, but the Vikings pulled ahead — putting 17 points on the board, leaving the Tigers with a 45-39 loss.
The Lady Tigers kept the Lady Vikes down in the first quarter, but only managed one point in the second — allowing them to end the half, 15-7. With double digits in the third and fourth quarter, Charlo took home the win, 38-19.
THE CLARK FORK Mountain Cats traveled to St. Regis for some cross-county rival basketball where the Tigers reigned triumphant on Saturday, Dec. 15. In the boys’ game, the Cats were only down by three at 19-16 at the half. But the Tigers turned up in the heat in the third quarter and leapt into a strong lead, putting 17 points on the board, leaving the Cats trailing by 11. The Cats rallied in the fourth quarter by scoring 14 points, but it wasn’t enough to catch the Tigers by the tail, with the stripes winning, 47-39.
The Lady Tigers pounced on Clark Fork during their matchup on Saturday evening with a win. They took an early lead in the first quarter and the Cats weren’t able to get within striking distance until the third, when the score was 24-20. But in the fourth quarter, the Tigers left the Lady Cats in a wake of dust by outscoring them, 17-3, for a 41-23 victory.
