Dale R. “Buzz” Boeck, 91, passed on Dec. 10, 2018, surrounded by his family at Luther Park in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Buzz leaves his wife, Muriel Joyce Boeck (Reynolds) of Sandpoint; son Michael Boeck and wife Dee; daughter Melanie Hess; granddaughter Alyssa Jacobson and husband Jeremy; grandson Justin Boeck; and great-grandchildren Sydney and Henry Jacobson and Isabel Boeck, and other close family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Berthold Charles and Mary Olive; his sister, Mary Ellen; and his son-in-law, Jim Hess.

Buzz was born on June 9, 1927, in Sandpoint. He graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1945 and helped construct Farragut Naval Base during high school. Upon graduation he enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Hancock. He received various medals for his service during World War II. Buzz and Joyce were married on March 17, 1948, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sandpoint. He owned and operated petroleum bulk plants and service stations in the Sandpoint area and eventually retired from McFarland Pole Company.

Buzz loved his horses, his dogs, and his grandkids. He loved to golf and square dance. Buzz was known for his great hunting and fishing skills. In his younger years, he was a star player on the high school basketball team. He also enjoyed coaching Little League and post-game he loved to load all his players in the back of his pick-up truck and take them for ice cream. Buzz was a life member of the Elk’s Club. He also served as a member of the Lion’s Club and helped establish Sandpoint City Beach.

Buzz will be remembered for his smile and laugh, his sense of humor, and his striking good looks. Often he laughed so hard he’d cry tears. Buzz was known for his sweet tooth — dessert was his favorite course and he always had to have the biggest piece. His favorite meal was chicken-fried steak.

Buzz was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. We will miss his quick wit, sparkling eyes, and kind gentle spirit.

Buzz was a lifelong resident of Sandpoint. His grandmother helped start the First Presbyterian Church of Sandpoint where he served as an elder. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Sandpoint. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
