MOSES LAKE — A man who was arrested during a raid at an alleged drug house in Moses Lake earlier this month has been ordered to serve 15 days in jail for drug possession.
David Cantu, 27, pleaded guilty in Grant County Superior Court to possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to a total of 15 days of confinement in the Grant County Jail.
The sentence relates to a number of drug buys made by members of Grant County’s Interagency Narcotics Enforcement Team (INET) over the course of a few months at a residence in the 1100 block of East Hill Avenue in Moses Lake.
The house was raided by Moses Lake officers and the Moses Lake Regional Tactical Response Team in the morning hours of Dec. 5. A search warrant for narcotics was previously obtained for the house and INET detectives recovered methamphetamine, heroin and electronic scales, which were consistent with devices that are used to weigh drugs for sale, in the residence.
Additionally, detectives served a search warrant at some storage lockers in Moses Lake and recovered electronics that are believed to have been used in drug trades. Cantu and Sonia Adamé, 37, were located inside of the East Hill Avenue residence and taken into custody.
Cantu was searched by a Moses Lake officer and a small bag containing a crystalline substance was found in his right front coin pocket. Cantu came clean and admitted the substance, which weighed a total of 2.8 grams, was methamphetamine. He claimed, however, that Adamé asked him to hold onto the meth for her and he “believes Adamé set him up.”
The East Hill Avenue house is in the vicinity of Lakeview Terrace Elementary, which prompted the school to go into a “secure the building mode” when the warrant was served on Dec. 5. A police officer was on campus as well and the school resumed normal operations later in the day.
