MOSES LAKE — The Manta Ray Aquatics swim team hosted an event for a fellow Inland Empire Swimming team, based out of the Tri-Cities.

The 2018 Winter Open drew over 350 athletes from Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, whom all traveled to Moses Lake to compete in the Tony St. Onge Pool of Dreams. Manta Ray Aquatics showed up in significant force with 33 athletes attaining personal best times throughout the two-day competition.

In addition to many impressive personal records, two Manta Ray relay teams achieved second-place finishes in their division. In Saturday’s Boys eight and under 100 medley relay, the team of Jonah Heaps (backstroke), Iver Miner (breaststroke), Marcus Quezada (butterfly), and Brandon Duvall (freestyle) each dropped time, amounting to a final time of 1:37.75 and a relay personal best by four seconds.

The next day of competition brought another second-place finish for the Manta Rays in the girls 9-10 200 freestyle relay. The team of Aline Davis, Kora Preston, Kendall Vance and Kathryn Duvall together shaved 3.5 seconds off of their seed time, achieving a relay best of 2:38.43.

Manta Ray Aquatics is excited to head into the championship portion of their season, starting with Junior Championships in Clarkston Feb. 9 to 11.
