MOSES LAKE — Sen. Judy Warnick, R-Moses Lake, was recently recognized for her effort to strengthen the rights and quality of life for law enforcement around Washington.

The Washington Council of Police and Sheriffs (WACOPS) recognized four legislators as their 2017 Legislators of the Year. As one of the four award winners, Warnick was recognized as being an advocate for WACOPS during her career in the legislature.

Warnick sits on the Law Enforcement Officers’ and Firefighters’ (LEOFF) Plan 2 Retirement Board, which serves over 19,000 active/retired members of the Washington State LEOFF 2 retirement plan. The board puts into place contribution rates for the plan and is tasked to study issues surrounding pension. In addition, the board recommends pension-related policy to legislators.

Warnick is also the sponsor of a bill that gives death/disability benefits to WACOPS members who respond to natural disasters and/or other federal emergencies. Also recognized by WACOPS was Sen. Kevin Van De Wege, D-Sequim, Rep. Morgan Irwin, R-Enumclaw, and Rep. Tina Orwall, D-Des Moines.
