MOSES LAKE — The original Red Door curio and antique shop is closing. The Red Door Cafe will remain open, and even expand.
The curio shop closes Saturday, said co-owner Jan Thacker. “We’re going to miss the little store,” she said, which sold antiques and collectibles, jewelry and artworks. “It’s been a lot of fun.”
But “it’s time to move on.” Thacker is an artist and author. “I have two books that are half-done and I haven’t touched them in a year. I hope the characters remember who I am.”
The space won’t be empty, however. Red Door Cafe has obtained a beer and wine license and its owners will convert the space into a bar – but with a twist.
The Red Door Boardroom will feature board games for patrons to play and a TV dedicated to video games, Thacker said. The bar will also be showing old movies. The goal is to give people another option for an evening’s entertainment, she said. The board game café has proved popular in Europe and is making its way to North America, she said.
The menu expands too. The cafe (and the bar) will serve pizza; along with the classic options, the cafe will convert its panini sandwiches to pizza (including roast beef and barbecue pork).
The opening date will be announced, with the goal of opening the space by spring. Thacker said the space will be repainted and the bar installed.
The cafe has changed its operating hours. The cafe will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

Road closures, roundabout, mean construction season underway
EPHRATA — The grass is starting to turn green, the trees are starting to leaf out, construction crews are starting to build roundabouts – hey, it’s spring. At least one roundabout project is in its final phase, held over from fall 2025. The intersection of State Route 282 and Nat Washington Way will be closed the week of April 6 to allow crews to install permanent lights. “This really is the final (closure),” wrote Grant County Administrator Tom Gaines in a media release. “The roundabout will close at 6 a.m. Monday, and we plan to reopen by Friday, possibly sooner if the work finishes early.”
Ybarra announces run for Washington Senate
QUINCY — State Representative Alex Ybarra, R-Quincy, has announced his candidacy for the Washington Senate. If he’s elected, he would replace Judy Warnick, R-Moses Lake, who announced her retirement in March.
Othello Community Museum to open April 25
OTHELLO — With a couple of new exhibits, a new heating-cooling system, rearranged displays and a thorough cleaning, the Othello Community Museum will open for the summer April 25. The goal, said Molly Popchock, museum board secretary, is to operate for a full season.
