EPHRATA — A monthly meeting for people suffering from memory loss and their families is scheduled for Tuesday in Ephrata. The “Community Memory Cafe” meets at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the fellowship hall at the United Methodist Church of Ephrata, 117 Northwest C St.

Admission is free.

The meeting is 1:30 to 3 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month. The discussions are led by Penny Clees, a Methodist chaplain, who has experience working with people who face memory loss.

Memory loss and the challenges it brings, are a common problem, she said. “Memory Cafe is a place to connect those folks with others in a safe, engaging environment where they can laugh and learn with others on a similar path,” she wrote.

“We hope to restore a sense of well-being and normalcy,” Clees said. The program is open to people with memory loss, their families and caregivers. “Help comes as those involved understand more about the challenges memory loss brings.”

The Ephrata program is part of an international trend; there are similar programs throughout Europe and North America. There is a similar program in Moses Lake, operated by Aging and Adult Services.

People who want more information on the Ephrata program can contact Clees at 206-282-1209.

EPHRATA — The grass is starting to turn green, the trees are starting to leaf out, construction crews are starting to build roundabouts – hey, it’s spring. At least one roundabout project is in its final phase, held over from fall 2025. The intersection of State Route 282 and Nat Washington Way will be closed the week of April 6 to allow crews to install permanent lights. “This really is the final (closure),” wrote Grant County Administrator Tom Gaines in a media release. “The roundabout will close at 6 a.m. Monday, and we plan to reopen by Friday, possibly sooner if the work finishes early.”
