MOSES LAKE — Zach Phillips, in his final regular-season home game, twisted under the hoop and scored through contact.

Phillips’ and-1 came on the heels of a pull-up 3-pointer on the previous possession. Those six straight points helped Moses Lake build a 17-point lead in the fourth quarter and ostensibly put the game out of reach on the way to a 62-46 win.

Clad in a black knee brace, Phillips scored nine of his 15 points in the fourth quarter.

“It’s been hurting me for a while and I just kind of had to put it out of my mind,” he said. “I just had to realize that it’s going to hurt and I’ve just got to fight through it.”

Judging by the bodies hitting the hardwood from start to finish, both sides were well aware of the stakes at play. Moses Lake took over sole possession of third place in the Columbia Basin Big Nine with the win.

However, the game wasn’t a cakewalk as the final score would indicate.

Wenatchee led 16-10 after one quarter and at halftime it was tied 22-22.

But when Moses Lake found its stride offensively in the second half, Wenatchee could not keep pace.

“We just wanted to take away all their momentum,” Phillips said. “When we played in Wenatchee they had all the momentum and they were just rolling and rolling. We wanted to make sure that we kept the momentum going our way and make sure we were playing the way we wanted to play, not down to their level.”

The Chiefs were relentless toward the rim in the third quarter.

Every bucket came in close quarters or a foul was drawn for a trip to the free throw line. That inside presence set up a Dax Lindgren 3-pointer as the game clock winded down for a six-point lead.

Phillips had a big fourth, but there was balance as well. Logan Sperline, Michael Byers, Cory Kunjara and Gio Walker combined to add 14 points.

COULEE CITY — Almira/Coulee-Hartline held Republic to two points in the first half and won comfortably 48-14.

The Warriors led 35-2 at halftime.

Maguire Isaak had 11 points to pace ACH.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 48, Wilbur-Creston 47

SPOKANE — Bryce Kelly beat the buzzer at the end of regulation and Lind-Ritzville/Sprague edged Wilbur-Creston 48-47.

Camden Smith scored a team-high 12 points to go along with Kelly’s 10.

Pateros 48, Moses Lake Christian 41

PATEROS — Moses Lake Christian struggled at the free throw line and with rebounding, losing to Pateros 48-41.

“We lacked defensive rebounding, especially in the fourth quarter,” head coach Lonny Brown said.

The Lions shot just 4-of-19 from the charity stripe.

Pierre Boorman scored 24 points and Walt Meise had 10.
