MOSES LAKE — Dads and daughters will dance the evening away, and mom and sons will play games in the gym. The annual Daddy-Daughter Dance and Mother-Son Fun Night are scheduled for 6:30 to 9 p.m. Feb. 24 at Moses Lake High School, 803 East Sharon Ave.
Proceeds from the dance and party go to the MLHS Choral Booster Club. This is the 11th year for the father-daughter dance, and the fifth year for the mom-son party.
The dad-daughter dance is a chance for little girls to get out their fanciest dresses, dads (and granddads and uncles and brothers) to dress up in their best duds, and go dancing.
The evening also features princesses. Lots of princesses, like Cinderella and Belle, Elsa and Snow White. Choral students dress up like princesses to talk to little girls and pose for pictures. There are some craft projects, cookies and punch, and girls and dads – and grandpas and uncles and brothers – can have pictures taken.
While girls and their dads are dancing in the cafeteria, boys and their moms are playing with superheroes in the gym. “Fun Night” was started to give boys and moms (and grandmas and aunts and sisters) something to do while Dad and Sister are at the dance.
The 2018 theme is “Heroes and Villains,” and traditionally there are lots of superheroes. Choral students also volunteer to don superhero costumes and maybe even some villain costumes. (Volunteers are both boys and girls, there being some girl superheroes, and even some girl villains.)
There are games and crafts, cookies and punch, a climbing wall, a bouncy house. The “Selfie Creation Station” gives boys and moms fun ways to dress up for pictures.
Choral students volunteer for a lot of the work, setting up the games in the gym, decorating the commons, serving the cookies and doing the myriad jobs that come with putting on an event.

Road closures, roundabout, mean construction season underway
EPHRATA — The grass is starting to turn green, the trees are starting to leaf out, construction crews are starting to build roundabouts – hey, it’s spring. At least one roundabout project is in its final phase, held over from fall 2025. The intersection of State Route 282 and Nat Washington Way will be closed the week of April 6 to allow crews to install permanent lights. “This really is the final (closure),” wrote Grant County Administrator Tom Gaines in a media release. “The roundabout will close at 6 a.m. Monday, and we plan to reopen by Friday, possibly sooner if the work finishes early.”
Ybarra announces run for Washington Senate
QUINCY — State Representative Alex Ybarra, R-Quincy, has announced his candidacy for the Washington Senate. If he’s elected, he would replace Judy Warnick, R-Moses Lake, who announced her retirement in March.
Othello Community Museum to open April 25
OTHELLO — With a couple of new exhibits, a new heating-cooling system, rearranged displays and a thorough cleaning, the Othello Community Museum will open for the summer April 25. The goal, said Molly Popchock, museum board secretary, is to operate for a full season.
