MOSES LAKE — Despite a rather poor rebounding and free-throw shooting night, the Moses Lake Christian Lions had a chance to win in the end on Senior Night.
Lions senior Walt Meise made the first of two free throws to make it a one-point game Thursday night against Riverside Christian, but couldn’t convert on the second. The Crusaders (7-3) went on a 6-0 run to close out a 52-44 victory on the road to end the regular season.
The two team will meet again on Feb. 13 in Yakima in the Central Washington 1B District Tournament. The Lions (9-2) don’t have a lot of time to lick their wounds or have any real reason to panic coach Lonny Brown said. They just have to do a better job on the defensive glass and make their free throws.
“The kids will always play hard, there’s no question of heart. The ball just didn’t go in and we missed free throws,” said Brown, whose team was 13-of-23 from the line. “We need to regroup and do a better job rebounding. They had way to many second, third and fourth chances tonight. It’s the second season and everybody’s 0-0. We need to go out and play the way we’ve been playing and we’ll be fine.”
Eighth-grade point guard Pierre Boorman had a game-high 21 points to go along with eight rebounds and five assists before fouling out with 1:22 remaining. Walt Meise had 11 points and Wes Meise contributed 10, for the Lions, who were outscored 21-9 in the final eight minutes.
Riverside’s Reagan Haas led the Crusaders with 17 points.
