Multi-family housing proposed for Silverbrook

A developer is looking into establishing multi-family residential housing near the junction of U.S. 93 and Church Drive at the extreme northern end of Kalispell in the Silverbrook development.

The developer, Silvermont Properties Inc., has not yet initiated the formal approval process with the city and is instead reaching out to residents of the area to collect feedback. They are planning on hosting the second of two meetings at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13 in the Silverbrook Clubhouse near the proposed site.

In a note sent out recently to homeowners in the area, a representative from Silvermont Properties said they had received overwhelmingly negative feedback thus far in the process and wanted to make sure they were being clear about how their proposal fit into other proposals in the rapidly developing neighborhood.

“Right now we are all in a learning and listening mode,” the letter reads. “No decision has been made.”

The letter notes that in the first informational meeting, held on January 24, they were worried people thought the process was further along than it was and wanted to clarify that other than confirming with the planning department that the project was viable, they had held no formal discussions.

The letter lists a few points on why the developer thinks it will be a good thing, including enhancing the ability of the area to attract businesses and committing to on-site in-residence management. The letter says Silvermont would be willing to include homeowner representation in their planning meetings.

The Daily Inter Lake will continue to cover any ongoing community discussion of the issue if it comes before the Kalispell Planning Board and, if approved, the city council.
