COULEE CITY — Carbon monoxide poisoning appears to be the cause of the death for two Coulee City residents who were found dead Monday night. Temperatures were recorded at about 20 degrees, according to an AccuWeather forecast.

About 7 p.m. responders were called to the 500 block of West Walnut Street in Coulee City. A landlord contacted MACC Dispatch after reportedly finding two of his renters, a male and a female, dead inside of a residence. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office reports it is believed the victims died as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning from either a propane appliance or a propane heater. The identities of the man and woman have not been released.

The bodies of the two victims are in the care of the Grant County Coroner’s Office. Foul play is not suspected in the deaths.

The sheriff’s office reminded the public that carbon monoxide poisoning has occurred in the county in the past. One such incident occurred in Royal City in November 2007, when three children died and two more were hospitalized as a result of carbon monoxide coming out of a generator that was running inside their residence during a power outage.
