The Libby High School boys basketball team led for most of their last game of the regular season on Feb. 10, but a tight fourth quarter and run by Polson in the final minutes led to a Pirates victory.

Early in the first quarter, Polson came out strong and the teams traded off scorings, but Libby inched ahead to end the quarter with a 9-6 lead.

Over the next two quarters of play, the Pirates managed to tie the game up three times, but the Loggers were quick to re-establish their dominance.

Polson clung to Libby’s heels, though, and each quarter ended with the teams three points apart.

At the end of the third quarter, Libby’s fall began, as Polson drew in steadily closer.

Throughout the final quarter, the Loggers fought to hold some kind of lead, only to have the Pirates sail back to the hoop and tie the game up again.

With less than half of the quarter left, Polson got the wind behind them and broke the tie to put the score back in their favor. By the time Libby managed to score again in the final minutes, they were too late to overcome the Pirates.

Leading their team for scoring, Logger juniors JJ Davis and Ryggs Johnston heavily outstripped the Pirates with three-point shots, successfully shooting five to Polson’s one. Yet, the Pirates were ultimately more successful with their possessions, hitting half of their baskets while Libby only made about a third.
