The Othello Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners for the annual 2017 Chamber Awards Banquet.

After reviewing nominations from the community, Shawn R. Logan has been named Citizen of the Year, Dora Mendez is the Civil Servant of the Year, and the Business of the Year went to Columbia Basin Health Association.

This year also saw three winners for Teacher of the Year as opposed to the usual two winners. The winners are K-5th grade teachers Maria L. Vela and Nicki Sams, and Raun L. Jensen was awarded in the 6-12th grade category.

Longtime Othello resident, Roger Thieme will also be recognized with the Distinguished Lifetime Service award during the banquet.

“He has done so much for the community,” Bianca Mendoza, chamber manager, said. “He has supported countless community organizations, including the chamber.”

Four special appreciation awards will also be given out to the Adams County Fair Association, the Adams County Livestock Association, Othello Rodeo Association and the Adams County Sheriff’s posse.

Each of the winners will be officially recognized during the banquet that will be held on Friday, Feb. 23 at the Bethel Assembly of God, 915 S 1st Ave. The theme of this year’s event is “Cowboy Up” with social hour beginning at 5 p.m. and the program starting at 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in the cowboy theme.

Tickets for the banquet are $30 if purchased in advance, and $35 at the door. They can be purchased at Patty’s Second Hand Store, RE/MAX, Basin Insurance, The Old Hotel, and Columbia Bank. Tickets are also available at the chamber office, 33 E Larch St.
