Local athletes are dusting off their mitts from winter storage as softball season has just kicked into gear.

Local Sanders County athletes from 14 years and under are signing up to be part of the Mission Valley Softball Association.

The Plains Youth Softball Association has just completed their signups for the season ahead.

Forty-seven girls registered this past week in all four divisions: U8, U10, U12, and U14. Though the numbers are strong they are down three players from the 2017 season.

“We have 13 new girls to the program this year,” said Kim Bergstrom of the Plains Softball Association.

The season will kick off officially on March 19 and run through to May. The league will consist of teams from Plains, Thompson Falls, Arlee, St. Ignatius, Charlo, Ronan and Polson.

“We will hold a league meeting on February 27. We will also be registering teams from all towns and setting schedules,” said Bergstrom

Exact season dates along with how many teams will be in each division will be confirmed after that meeting.
