Recycling bin coming soon to Superior

The town of Superior will soon have a new recycling bin, thanks to the efforts of Alberton resident Loreen Green.
The Superior Town Council voted on Feb. 12 to support the recycling bin at a cost of $200 per month. The rest of the funds are expected to come from local businesses and individual donations. The bin will be located at the old Superior Color and Lumber yard located at 109 Mullan Road West.
“This is an eco-friendly way for businesses to save money and help save the environment,” said Green. By supporting the bin, businesses can have fewer garbage containers from Republic while supporting a greener world by recycling.
Once the facility is in full swing, it will accept cardboard, Nos. 1 and 2 plastics, magazines, junk mail, paper sacks, newspapers, tin and aluminum cans, and paper. The site will be monitored and have specific operating hours.
The town of Alberton also has a recycling bin located at the Feed Store. Alberton School, Valley Grocery, Crescent Family Farm, Acker Construction and the Kromery family have all donated to get the bin up and running. The cost is $300 per “pull” and currently that’s about one time per month. Individuals who use the container are asked to leave a donation at the store.
Green said she is also accepting small appliances including TVs and computers for a fee. Those items can be taken apart and pieces recycled.
Superior is having a Cleanup Day on May 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Town Council will furnish large dumpsters for local residents located on Mullan Road West. Volunteers will be available to verify residency and help direct the public.
They will also accept appliances and street tires removed from the rim. Household and business garbage will not be accepted. People can also call (406) 822-4672 and pre-arrange for curbside pickup of major appliances and furniture.

Mineral County sends tax bill to Forest Service
The Forest Service will be receiving a property tax bill from Mineral County this year. County Commissioners Laurie Johnston, Roman Zylawy and Duane Simons signed the letter March 9 requesting property tax revenue for 2017. The “historic letter” as defined by Rep. Denley Loge, describes the plight Mineral County is facing as options to fund the county have dried up.
Colorado woman dies after vehicle gets stuck
An early evening call received by Mineral County dispatch on Friday, March 17, ended in tragedy. The body of Colorado resident Debra Ann Koziel was found in the Fish Creek area by a search team the following Tuesday afternoon. Her death was determined to be the result of exposure to weather.
No major flooding as snow thaws
“As the ground starts thawing, the rocks start falling,” was a post made on the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page last week. A photo accompanied the post of a big rock which had come down on Mullan Road East near the Big Eddy fishing access in Superior on March 11. “Please be aware of your surroundings and pay attention while driving,” they warned in the post.
