Prep roundup: Oxos scores 29 in Ephrata's win over East Valley

YAKIMA — Ephrata outscored East Valley 45-21 in the second half to win going away 78-55.

The Tigers trailed by one point at halftime.

Jake Oxos poured in 29 points and Josh Benthem added 15.

Selah 82, Othello 48

OTHELLO — Othello could not corral the 2017 state runners-up and lost to Selah 82-48.

Vikings standout guard Elijah Pepper scored 28 points.

Oroville 73, Soap Lake 43

OROVILLE — Soap Lake’s defense unraveled in the fourth quarter in a loss to Oroville 73-43.

The Hornets’ lead ballooned from seven points to 30 over the final six minutes.

Klay Northup and Deezy Bentley paced the Eagles with 11 points each. Spencer Martin scored 35 points for Oroville.

Girls basketball

East Valley 60, Ephrata 30

YAKIMA — Ephrata struggled offensively and lost to East Valley 60-30.

The Tigers managed just two points in the third quarter.

Madison Martin scored a team-high 10 points and Avery Mickelsen had nine.

Okanogan 46, Warden 27

OKANOGAN — A poor shooting night doomed Warden in its loss to Okanogan 46-27.

The Cougars scored eight points in the first half.

Bailey Whitney scored 11 points.

Soap Lake 52, Oroville 20

OROVILLE — Soap Lake broke Oroville’s press after the first quarter to pull away and win 52-20.

Sierra Janikowski led the Eagles with 17 points.

Girls wrestling

Othello wins twice in Wapato

WAPATO — Othello took advantage of several forfeits to beat Wapato 69-9 and Grandview 72-11.

Othello 100-pounder Bernice Mendoza split her matches, losing to Wapato’s Unique Orozco 14-13 before she pinned her opponent from Grandview.

Ruby Villalobos (125) won by fall against Wapato and Elizabeth Giles (140) won a close match with the Wolves’ returning state participant Estrella Pulgarin 7-4.

Iyazely Barraza (115), Jacky Peguero (120) and Kaitlyn Goodman (170) won by fall against Grandview.

Volleyball

2 Tigers all-state honorable mention

Ephrata’s Madison Martin and Kiana Miller were voted all-state honorable mention by the Washington State Volleyball Coaches Association.

Martin, a hitter, and Miller, a libero, helped Ephrata finished No. 5 in the Central Washington Athletic Conference.
