Yakama Nation snaps Warriors three-game win streak

MATTAWA — Wahluke Boys Basketball opened the season with four wins and a loss, and then went on a three game win streak beating Kiona Benton 65-60, squeaking by River View 55-54, and blowing out Highland 85-23 Dec. 21. On Dec. 22, the Warriors battled it out with Yakama Nation looking to make it four-in-a-row, but it was the Tribal Eagles coming away with a hard fought 79-69 win on Wahluke’s home court.

The Warriors (7-1, 2-1) aim to get back on the winning tract when they take the short trip to Royal City to take on the second place Knights in SCAC East Conference action Jan 5 Tip off is 7:30 p.m.

FFA judging teams among the best at Central Washington State Fair

YAKIMA — The Othello High School FFA judging team brought home several top honors from the Central Washington State Fair held in Yakima Sept. 26. Among them were a first place banner in Class 6 Livestock, and a second place finish by Alyson Shade who beat out all but one of 300 competitors from 61 high schools in the individual dairy judging. Sarah Wilson placed eighth in horse judging.

The Othello School District is in the nation’s 100th percentile for student academic growth between 3rd and 8th grade according to an article published in The New York Times last week.

Annual Jog-a-Thon raises money for a good cause

The Othello PTA held its annual Jog-a-Thon fundraiser at Lutacaga Elementary Friday, Oct. 13. Kindergarten through fifth grade students were scheduled to run laps outside of the school, but the event was moved into the gymnasium because the weather on Thursday left too much moisture on the grass for the kids to run through.
