BONNERS FERRY — There is another recipient of the P.C.E. grant, which is a grant aimed toward women that helps them with their higher education.

Sarah Hull received the grant this week, and is using it towards her schooling at Lewis-Clark State College to become a teacher in elementary education, specializing in reading. Hull has been substitute teaching at Mt. Hall, and plans to expand to sub at all of the elementary schools in the district.

Hull and her husband moved to Boundary County from Olympia, Wash. about three years ago to help his grandparents maintain their property. After studying pre-law, Hull decided the field wasn’t for her, and then she spent some time helping friends run a restaurant, she decided that she needed to move on.

“Teaching has kind of always been my passion, so now I’m going for it finally,” said Hull. “I love the school district, and this community, and I am really excited to find my place in this community. It’s been really great, really welcoming to be here, and I’m excited to contribute and do my part.”

About a year from now, Hull will have completed the majority of her schooling. She will be moving temporarily to Coeur d’Alene to work in Post Falls teaching summer school classes, Hull confides, “which will be a little bit of a struggle, but I plan to move back up here and work locally.”

In regards to receiving the grant, Hull said, “Its really hard to ask for help, and it had been suggested that I apply for this for awhile by one of my friends.”

After some more prodding, Hull applied.

“Once you get that help, it is so cool to have that support. It makes me feel like people believe in me, and that feels really good,” said Hull. “I would have pursued this career path with or without the help, but it is good to know that i have that help. It makes me feel like I can really do this.”

With the right motivation and support, accomplishing career goals is not as daunting as it may seem, and the ladies in the local P.E.O. chapter are there to help.
