YAKIMA — Idaho transfer Tyler Brimhall had 17 points and seven rebounds for the Cardinals in a loss to the Yaks in a Northwest Athletic Conference game.
“We couldn’t hit a jump shot and get over the hump when we needed to,” NIC coach Corey Symons said. “We weren’t very aggressive for some reason, and it took us a while to get going. When we needed a big play, we didn’t make one.”
NIC played without starting post Keegan Crosby for most of the game after he was injured early in the first half, as well as Jalen Burkett, who missed the game due to a violation of team rules.
“Yakima has a really good team and plays hard,” Symons said. “It wasn’t anything they did. We just didn’t play NIC basketball.”
NIC (10-4, 0-1 NWAC) hosts Columbia Basin on Thursday.
Gaumaun Boykin had 21 points and seven rebounds for Yakima Valley (11-4, 2-0).
