Haeg's career night lifts St. Maries past Grangeville

GRANGEVILLE — Junior post Kaci Haeg scored 15 of her career-high 21 points in the second half as the St. Maries Lumberjacks rolled pulled away for a 57-36 victory over the Grangeville Bulldogs in Central Idaho League play on Saturday.

“She just turned it up a notch today,” St. Maries coach Jay Sines said. “She ran the floor well, and the girls were finding her.”

Sines also praised a strong all-around game from Devyn Wilson, who added nine points, nine rebounds and five assists for St. Maries (6-4, 2-0 CIL). Kaylee Auer had nine points and seven rebounds. Haeg had three steals.

Madison Cordell had four assists, and with some help from her teammates, held Paige Lindsley, top scorer for Grangeville (5-6, 0-1), to 12 points.

“We came out ready to play,” Sines said. “We’ve been having some slow starts, and tonight when they stepped off the bus, you could tell they were ready to play.”

St. Maries won both its league road games, having triumphed at Orofino in December.

St. Maries plays host to Wallace on Tuesday.

POST FALLS — Bayley Brennan scored all 16 of her points in the second half as the Trojans, who led by just two at halftime, pulled away to beat the Wolfpack of Kalispell, Mont., at the Arena.

“We looked like we were the ones that crawled off a four-hour bus ride,” Post Falls coach Marc Allert said. “Give Glacier credit, they outplayed us in the first half.”

Melody Kempton scored a game-high 17 points for Post Falls (13-2). Tyler McCliment-Call added 11 points, Macky Morris eight rebounds, Brennan five assists.

“We switched defenses in the second half and played with more energy,” Allert said.

Post Falls plays host to Lake City on Tuesday.

EAST WENATCHEE, Wash. — Klaire Mitchell scored seven of her team-high 11 points in the fourth quarter, and she added five rebounds and five assists as the Timberwolves beat the Wildcats.

“Klaire really sparked us in the third quarter and was kind of our driving force out of halftime,” Lake City assistant coach Troy Anderson said. “She was all over the place tonight, getting deflections and getting out on the fast break.”

Keara Simpson had 12 rebounds and eight points and Bridget Rieken had 10 rebounds and six points for Lake City (10-6), which travels to Post Falls for a 5A IEL game on Tuesday.

Kaitlyn Cox scored 15 points for Eastmont (6-6).

“We forced some turnovers early, but didn’t capitalize on them and they got out to a lead in the first quarter,” Sandpoint coach Duane Ward said. “We settled in after the first quarter and made some runs on them, but just couldn’t sustain it and make baskets down the stretch.”

Ciera Bailey scored 10 points for Sandpoint (6-6), which hosts Kellogg on Tuesday.

GENESEE — The visiting Knights battled back from a slow start to tie the game at 41 and 43, before the Bulldogs scored the game’s final five points.

“Honestly, this was probably our best effort all season; we just fell short,” said Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman. “I was really proud of the effort; we’re kinda shorthanded with injuries.”

Tommia Pakootas led Lakeside (9-6) with 14 points. Tara Allen added 11 points and 14 rebounds, and Brittanee Brown had nine boards.

Courtney Burt of Genesee led all scorers with 19 points.

Lakeside plays host to Garfield-Palouse (Wash.) on Tuesday.
