NAMPA — Now battle tested, the Post Falls High wrestling team can focus a little more in the second half of the season.

Post Falls finished with 10 placers, including champions Ridge Lovett at 126 pounds and Braydon Huber at 160 pounds to win the Rollie Lane Invitational for the fourth-straight year on Saturday at the Ford Idaho Center.

“To go from Tri-State, to The Clash (a duals tournament in Minnesota) to this weekend, it’s been a grind,” Post Falls assistant coach Jeremy Zender said. “To rally back, the kids wrestled lights out. Most everyone won their final match, and to finish 38 points ahead of a really good team, it just shows they’re battle-tested and doing what it takes to succeed.”

Lovett was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler after being Trent Baun of Colville 3-1 in their championship bout.

“Ridge had a really tough match in the finals,” Zender said. “He was tested a little bit and had to work for it, but fought back to get the win.”

Tyler Morris (152) and Isaac Jessen (113) finished second, Matt McLeod (138) and Jason Burchell (145) third, A.J. De La Rosa (132) fourth, Roddy Romero (98) fifth and Coleton Kazmierczak sixth at 170 for Post Falls, which finished with 252.5 points. Crook County in Prinville, Ore., was second with 214.5.

Lakeland’s William Edelblute was the team’s lone champion, winning the 120-pound title.

“Coming off a loss at Reno (on Dec. 29 in finals of Sierra Nevada Classic), it really motivated him to be a two-time Rollie Lane champion,” Lakeland coach Rob Edelblute said. “He had six state champions in his class it was really good to see him fight through it and get a win.”

Larry Johnson (145) was second and Sam Edelblute (113) was fourth for Lakeland, which finished fourth.

“We were right in the mix,” Rob Edelblute said. “It’s one of those things where we’re still trying to get everyone healthy and focused on state. Our guys wrestled tough and I was really happy with how we performed this weekend. We’re fighting a little banged up and needing some rest, but I’m impressed with how we’re wrestling right now.”

Mitchell Moffat, who was the lone unbeaten remaining heading into the quarterfinals, was eliminated just out of the placing round for Coeur d’Alene, which finished 21st.

“We had a tough opening round in the consolation today,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “It’s high school wrestling, and anyone can get beat at anytime. We’ve got kids that can place at state, but we’ve got to keep plugging away.”
