BONNERS FERRY — Owning property is beneficial in so many ways, but can also be difficult to manage — especially to those who own multiple properties in multiple places. An owner’s option to rent their property out is an opportunity that many property owners utilize to supplement income and help pay the costs of upkeep.

David and Lori Allen are the owners of the new Allen’s Property Management and Caretaking company, located across the street from the Boundary County Library and Mugsy’s Tavern and Grill parking lot. They moved from Reno, Nev., a little more than a year ago, and brought with them the knowledge and experience of owning, renting, and remodeling properties.

The Allens have been involved with remodeling homes and house sitting over the years, so they have obtained plenty of experience while doing that. They wish to share this experience with the Boundary County community, so local residents feel their estates are aptly cared for during their absence.

“We make sure that everything is done how the owner wants it or how they would do things if they were present, and there is an agreement written up that lays it all out,” said Lori Allen. “I have always wanted to do real estate itself, so I got involved in that. Then I started receiving phone calls, and because I had experience with remodeling and doing my own things, I began helping others with theirs. Since I already had my real estate license, this was the next step.”

With the business comes a lot of paperwork. The Allens provide background checks, credit checks, and secure the leases, as well as assuring the transfer of the rental payments from tenant to owner. They provide property caretaking and upkeep, as well as a house cleaning service for the properties that they manage alongside doing house checks.

With David Allen being retired law enforcement, the Allens were asked to house sit on multiple occasions in previous years.

“Mainly it has been for people that I have known in the past. I have also had a few houses of my own that I have rented out,” said Lori Allen.

With the recent move to Bonners Ferry, the Allens have started getting integrated into the community through helping with food drives and other charity causes — and Lori Allen has stepped up to be a member of the Chamber of Commerce

“When you find someplace that you really like and enjoy, you want to make everything better, and that is what we are doing,” said Lori Allen. “I’ve had my own experiences running things before, and you know how you want to be treated and you want to treat others with respect, and that is the basis, to give a friendly and professional service to the community.”

With Lori Allen being a real estate agent at Coldwell Banker, David Allen will be the face of the business, with his wife helping when and where she can.

“We don’t have set hours, but we are always available by phone,” said Lori Allen. “We can’t guarantee we will be in the office due to having to take a look at things, properties, and talk to people, but basically if someone wants to we can set an appointment, we are available any time of the week. The main key to property management is being available anytime.”

As the couple brings their experience to a much needed field of work in the growing county, Lori Allen assured, “We are there and will continue to be there for people that need us and we will handle things quickly and professionally.”
