Kistler's hoop lifts Timberlake past Priest River

PRIEST RIVER — Sheldon Kistler scored in traffic with 9 seconds left, and the Timberlake Tigers roared back from a slow start to beat the Priest River Spartans 48-47 in Intermountain League play Saturday night in the boys’ Battle of the Buck spirit game.

“He just willed the ball into the basket,” Timberlake coach Michael Scott said. “There was a lot of contact, but he got the ball into the basket.”

Kistler scored seven of his 14 points in the fourth quarter for Timberlake (5-8, 2-1 IML), which was playing without two of its top five scorers. Jordan Hardy, who got the assist on the winning basket, added 11 points.

Timberlake fell behind 16-5 after one quarter, pulled within five points at halftime, then was down by nine after three quarters.

“It was a wild game,” Scott said after Timberlake won the spirit competition. “In the first quarter our shot selection was pretty poor — we were taking way too many 3-pointers. We dug ourselves a hole because we were so impatient.”

Caden Brennan scored 14 points for Priest River (1-13, 0-3).
