Kaniksu Health Services’ Veterans Clinic is welcoming three new providers next month. Joining Kaniksu Health will be Brenda Hewlett, Bob Trotter, and Dean Cosgrove.

- Brenda Hewlett, FNP, has over 35 years of experience in the health care industry, 15 as an registered nurse at St. Lukes Hospital in Boise and 20 as a family nurse practitioner in Kamiah. Hewlett is a strong believer in involving the patient in their healthcare and encourages them to be an active participant in their medical options and plan of care.

Her passion in healthcare is preventive medicine and she believes in taking the time to listen to the patient’s concerns and has a willingness to consult and collaborate with other healthcare providers and specialists when needed.

“I am excited and honored for the opportunity to provide medical care for our veterans,” Hewlett said. “Veterans deserve quality, adequate and timely medical care which I hope to provide.”

- Bob Trotter, PA-C, specializes in family and emergency medicine and has a particular interest in remote and rural medicine. He received his training from the University of Washington and the Arizona School of Health Sciences. Trotter has been practicing medicine for 23 years, most of which has been in the underserved areas of Alaska.

Trotter believes in using evidenced based medicine to work as a partner with his patients so that they are informed when making decisions about their care. Growing up in a military family and serving in the Alaska Air National Guard, he understands the culture and is pleased to have the opportunity to serve the area’s veterans.

- Dean Cosgrove, PA-C, started his medical career as an Army medic and has over 20 years of experience in rural emergency room, urgent care and general medicine. Cosgrove received his degree from the University of Washington MEDEX NorthWest Physician Assistant Program.

Cosgrove believes that good healthcare requires participation by both the patient and provider, and that understandable education and easily implemented lifestyle changes play and important role in good health.

“I actively listen to their problems and encourage working together to improve their health,” he added.

Kaniksu Health Services CEO Victoria King said the clinic is excited to welcome the trio on board.

“We are very excited to have these three very experienced, high quality providers join our VA team,” King said. “Our VA clinic, under contract with the Spokane VAMC, provides care to veterans who live in and around North Idaho, northwest Montana and northeast Washington. This includes primary care, laboratory services, and emergency pharmacy needs.”

To schedule an appointment with the KHS VA clinic call 208-263-0450.
