Patricia Ann Schoonover, 70

Patricia Ann Schoonover (also fondly referred to as “Cookie”) passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at the age of 70, after complications with C.O.P.D. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Patti was born on Aug. 22, 1947, in Spokane, Wash., to Pat and Mary McCollum.

Patti is survived by her childhood sweetheart, husband Jack (aka “Papa”) Schoonover, in Worley, Idaho; loving son and daughter-in-law Jarrod and Kim Schoonover and their adored children, Daisy and Carson, in Spokane; Jeff; Julie; beloved grandson (contributor of “Cookie” and “Papa” legacy), Jessy and daughter-in-law Renee Schoonover and their precious children, Cooper and Lexi, in California; sisters Chris Presta in Spokane, Claudia Arel in Hayden, Idaho, Susan and Jerry Goettle in Helena, Mont., Laurie and Dave Ferguson in Spokane, brothers Mike and Lindy McCollum in Pleasant Hill, Ore., and Jay and Jocelyn McCollum in Kenai, Alaska. Patti also has cherished nieces, nephews, and very special lifelong friends, all of us are too many to count.

Patti and Jack were married on June 1, 1968, where their legend in the Spokane area began. They owned a truck stop and restaurant called Schoony’s, in Athol, Idaho, from 1977 to 1986. The rest is history out on Lake Coeur d’Alene. Rest assured, the home is in good hands, Patti made sure Jack was trained on how to feed the deer, squirrels and hummingbirds.

She will be fondly remembered as a classy lady in any situation and one you could talk to about anything, no matter the time that passed between you. She was truly a beautiful woman inside and out.

Patti was regarded highly by all as the face of Tom Addis Lake City Ford in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, for 20 years, where she excelled at keeping Tom and the sales people in line. She was considered family there. What a blessing to go home to her little slice of heaven on the lake for the simple and rich life with more family and friends.

We will miss Patti terribly and will gather for a celebration of her life midsummer- “Cookie-style.” In lieu of flowers, Patti would appreciate a donation to Hospice House of North Idaho. Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements. Please visit Patti’s memorial page and sign her online guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
