Timberlake eases past Sandpoint

SANDPOINT — Brooke Jessen and Lilly Kelley each scored 12 points, and Timberlake hit some timely 3-pointers late in the game to break open a close contest and down host Sandpoint 48-41 on Saturday during senior night at Les Rogers Court.

The 4A Bulldogs (9-8) were coming off an emotional spirit game win the night before over Lakeland, and hung with the No. 2-ranked 3A Tigers (14-3) for three quarters, eventually taking a two-point lead into the fourth before being outscored 15-6 down the stretch.

Ciera Bailey scored 11, Grace Kirscher 10 for the Bulldogs, and both were among the seven seniors honored before the game. The Bulldogs are finally fully healthy, and look to be a dangerous team in the 4A ranks, but they simply ran out of gas against a tough Tigers squad, which capped a 6-0 run this year against 4A IEL teams.

“We didn’t have much left in the tank in the fourth quarter and couldn’t get the shots to fall. Timberlake is such a good team that you can’t afford empty trips late in a close game with them,” Sandpoint assistant coach Will Love said. “Our girls played hard on defense and did a good job on the boards. We just had a hard time stopping Jessen inside in the second half and they hit some key 3s in the fourth quarter.”

Sandpoint hosts Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday in the final nonleague tune-up of the season.
