Two Bigfork High School students were injured while snowshoeing on a field trip in the Marias Pass area Tuesday.

According to Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry, the group was hiking near the edge of Glacier National Park, roughly half a mile from U.S. 2, when a cornice broke loose. Two students were injured after falling about 8 to 10 feet, Curry said.

First responders from Glacier National Park, Flathead County, ALERT and Two Bear Air were deployed. The latter two agencies each transported one of the injured students to Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

Curry said an update on the condition of the patients was not available.

Glacier National Park did not have any additional information. This article will be updated as more information becomes available.
