Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness is hosting four Winter Tracks programs in Lincoln County this winter “to engage students in an outdoor setting during the winter months to deepen their sense of place, build community and connect to the outdoor world through experiential education,” states program coordinator Sandy Compton in a news release.

Students will learn about topics including leave no trace, winter mammals and birds, avalanche awareness and animal tracking.

The first Winter Tracks day will be held at Alvord Lake, near Troy on Jan. 25, and subsequent days will be held at Timberlane Campground on Pipe Creek Road near Libby. Libby fifth graders will attend Friday, Jan. 26 and Friday, Feb. 2. Kootenai Valley Christian School and Alternative School students will attend Thursday, Feb. 1.
