Cats double win over Tigers in cross-county matchup

The cross-county boys basketball matchup between the St. Regis Tigers and the Clark Fork Mountain Cats proved to be an even match during the first half of the game, but by the end of the game, it was a Cats win.
The half-time score of 16-14 actually had the Tigers up by two. But by the third quarter the Cats put on some steam and leapt ahead, putting up 20 more points to the Tigers 11. The Cats duplicated their 20 point score in the fourth quarter for a final win of 54-41.
Cat Carson Callison was the evening high scorer on the St. Regis court with 21 points. Followed by Cat Conner Voll with 15, Bryan Mask 9, Aaron Waddle 5, Drake Neill and Korey Radford both with 2.
Tanner Day, grade 8, topped the Tigers with 12 points followed by Nic Day with 9. Ian Farris put up 7, Andrew Sanford 6, Adam Ball 5, and James Booker 2.
The Lady Cats jumped over the Tigers, 43-25 in the Thursday evening matchup in St. Regis. The teams were matched up with the Cats only ahead by one point by the half. But in the third quarter the Cats came out swinging and put up 18 points leaving the Tigers in the dust with only 5. They didn’t let up in the fourth quarter and put up another 12 points to the Tigers 8.
The Cats haven’t lost a conference game yet this season and Head Coach, Jeff Schultz, said that the team works really well together, “they really love to play defense and what makes them great is that the team is strong, not just the individual parts. We have good players and they come together to make a great team.”
Cat senior, Hailey Kelly led the evening with 17 points followed by Madison Mask with 14. Madison Lommen had 5, Montanna Baughman had 3, Margaret Parkin and Kenzie Mueller both had 2 points each. On the Tiger side, Justice Tate was team high scorer with 14 points, both Emma Hill and Kylie Thompson had 4 and Madison Kelly had 3.
St. Regis loses to Charlo at home
On Jan. 20 the St. Regis Tigers faced Charlo at home with a heartbreaking loss by the girls with a final score of 36-34. The two teams were side-by-side throughout the game with the Vikings ahead by just three points by the half, 20-17. In the third quarter the Tigers came back and tied up the score, 24-24. But in the final quarter the Vikings managed to sink an additional bucket squeaking by with the win. Anna Sanford was team high scorer with 12 points, with both Madison Kelly and Kylee Thompson scoring 7 points. Emma Hill and Justice Tate each scored 4.
The St. Regis boys suffered a bigger loss in the game with a final score, 68-28. Charlo boys came out strong in the first quarter putting up 26 points to the Tigers 3. The rest of the game was a closer matchup with the point spread within four points. But the Tigers couldn’t overcome the Vikings first quarter lead and lost their home game. Tanner Day scored 6 points, Ian Farris, James Booker and Andrew Sanford scored 5 points each, Nic Day 4 and Adam Ball 3.
Lady Cats fly over Blue Hawks on road in Thompson Falls
The Clark Fork Mountain Cats traveled to Thompson Falls where the girls flew over the Blue Hawks for a 57-40 win. The Cats managed a steady climb to the winners circle with a 24-16 lead at the half. The Hawks put up 12 points in both the third and fourth quarters to the Cats 19 and 14 scores. Hailey Kelly was team high scorer with 19 points. Madison Mask had 13, Madison Lommen and Kenzie Mueller had 11 each and Montanna Baughman had 3.
The boy Cats didn’t do as well as the girls with a loss of 60-41 to the Blue Hawks. The teams were tied at the end of the first quarter, 10-10. By the half the Hawks managed a slight edge with 22-17. But in the second half of the game, the Hawks started their flight to victory putting 18 points up in the third quarter to the Cats 13, and another 20 points in the fourth quarter to the Cats 11. Both Bryan Mask and Carson Callison made 15 points for the evening. Connor Voll put up 5 points, Danner Haskins, Drake Neill, and Korey Radford all had two points.

Mission Quad in St. Ignatius
The Clark Fork Mountain Cats traveled to St. Ignatius on Jan. 18 for a tournament with St. Ignatius, Florence, and Arlee. During the evening, Cat Isaiah Kovalsky pinned Colt Crawford from Arlee in the 138 lb. match and Kyler Francis pinned Denzel Lefthand from St. Ignatius in the 145 lb. Ryan Cahalin had dec. in the 152 lbs. with St. Ignatius, Collin Appleby and Cat Thomas Anderson also pinned Appleby and Evan Hall def. O’Mashte Foster from Florence at 285 lbs.
At Ted Kato Tournament in Thompson Falls, Superior/Alberton finish in 8th place
Thompson Falls took top honors at their own Ted Kato Tournament on Jan. 20 scoring 184. Followed by Mission/Charlo in second place with 125, Plains/Hot Springs came in third with 114, Florence fourth with 111, Kalispell Flathead fifth with 80, sixth was Arlee with 72.5, followed by Missoula Sentinel with 69 and in eighth was Superior/Alberton with 50.5, ninth was Kalispell Glacier with 42 and tenth was Bigfork with 3.
In the 138 pound the championship went to Florence, Avery Meinzen with a dec. with Superior’s Isaiah Kovalsky, 11-10. At 170 pounds, the championship went to Jase Sorenson of Thompson Falls with a maj. Dec. with Trey Green from Superior, 15-3.
