WALLACE — Hitchhiking his way to Nashville, a ghostly Hank Williams famously asked David Allen Coe in the 1983 song “The Ride” — “Have you paid your dues, can you moan the blues? Can you bend them, guitar strings?”

If those questions were posed to Roy Rogers & The Delta Rhythm Kings, the answer would most definitely be “yes.”

The Wallace Chamber of Commerce has recently announced this famous singer and slide guitarist will be making an appearance at this year’s Wallace Blues Festival from July 13-15.

For more than 30 years, Rogers and his band have brought their special brand of music to blues fans all over the world. He boasts an impressive resume and has recorded with other famous musicians such as Miles Davis, Taj Mahal and two albums in a band with former Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek.

As a producer, he is perhaps best known for John Lee Hooker’s classic Grammy winning album “The Healer,” which featured Bonnie Raitt, Santana, Los Lobos, and more.

Rogers’ promotion pack describes a night with the band featuring “classics and originals ranging from the acoustic slide blues of Robert Johnson, Lighting Hopkins to the rockin’ blues of John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters, songs such as — ‘Shake Your Money Maker,’ ‘Walkin’ Blues,’ ‘Terraplane Blues,’ ‘Dust My Broom’ and ‘The Sky is Crying.’”

The Wallace Chamber says that tickets for the Blues Festival will be available for purchase soon.
