Aspire Community Theatre’s upcoming production is all about energy, humor and the heartbreak of life in the big city for an unfortunate but irrepressible optimist.

Aspire will present “Sweet Charity” at the Salvation Army Kroc Community Theatre on selected dates and times from Feb. 9 through Feb. 18.

The second production in Aspire’s 2017-2018 season, “Sweet Charity” explores the turbulent love life of Charity Hope Valentine, a hopelessly romantic but comically unfortunate dance hall hostess in New York City.

Many will remember the 1969 Academy Award-winning movie made famous by Shirley MacLaine, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Ricardo Montalban.

With a tuneful, groovy, mid-1960s score by Cy Coleman, musical numbers include: “Big Spender,” “If My Friends Could See Me Now,” “There’s Gotta Be Something Better Than This,” “I’m a Brass Band” and “Baby, Dream Your Dream.”

The Aspire production will feature 29 local performers and a live orchestra with musicians from the area.

Tickets are $15 to $21 and can be purchased online at www.aspirecda.com or by visiting the box office at the Kroc two hours prior to performances. Discounted group rates are available.

Show times and dates at the Salvation Army Kroc Center Theatre, 1765 W. Golf Course Road, Coeur d’Alene:

7:30 p.m. Feb. 9, 10, 14, 15, 16, 17.

2 p.m. Feb. 10, 11, 17, 18.
