COEUR d’ALENE — It was a fitting finish to the eighth annual North Idaho Rumble.

In one corner in the 126-pound championship was Lakeland’s William Edelblute, who entered with 29-1 record on the season. The other was Post Falls’ Ridge Lovett, who entered at 33-0.

Lovett picked up the 2-0 decision on a takedown in the second period, one of three Trojans to claim an individual championship during the finals at Coeur d’Alene High on Saturday afternoon.

“Ridge just wrestled a smart match,” Post Falls coach Pete Reardon said. “And I think Will wrestled him smart and that’s what gave him the chance to win.”

“It was a great match,” Lakeland coach Rob Edelblute said. “Those boys are very competitive and it was great to see. Will could have dropped down, but he wanted this match and wanted to push himself this weekend.”

Lovett pinned Edelblute in the championship dual at the River City Duals on Jan. 13.

“It was a really close match and Ridge did a great job,” Reardon said. “Wrestling a great competitor like Will, it’s a tough match.”

Post Falls won the tourney for the seventh straight year, getting championships from Roddy Romero (98 pounds), A.J. De La Rosa (132) and Braydon Huber (160).

“Braydon wrestled a tough kid and won a close match in the finals,” Reardon said. “Roddy had a great tournament, did a great job against some of the top kids in the state and had a great tournament. A.J. had an awesome match in the finals. We’re really proud of all our kids.”

Lakeland, which finished second with 222 points, picked up championships from Alex Edelblute (106), Sam Edelblute (113) and Larry Johnson (145). Lucas Gardner (285) was second.

“The kids wrestled really well,” said coach Edelblute, whose team finished with 12 overall placers. “In the past at this tournament, we’ve been fourth or fifth after the first day and needing those top guys to punch through. We had 10 guys in the semifinals, which was a great number to see and not depending on those top guys to score points. We bumped Lucas up to heavyweight just to see how it went, and he wrestled really tough. It was good to see him show up and wrestle well.”

Payton Keough finished runner-up at 132 pounds for host Coeur d’Alene, which finished fourth with 141 points.

“We made some really good strides,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “Payton got to the finals, but I don’t think he was feeling well. Mitchell (Moffat, who finished third at 145), wrestled tough all weekend and might be wrestling the best he has all year. We had some real tough weight classes.”

Timberlake’s Isaiah Evans beat Jordan Grimm of Post Falls 5-3 in the 120-pound final, helping the Tigers finish fifth.

Sandpoint’s Hyrum Hunsaker beat Coleton Kazmierczak of Post Falls 14-11 in the 170-pound final. The Bulldogs finished 12th.
