Sandpoint man jailed on probation violations

SANDPOINT — A Sandpoint man who dodged a prison term in a statutory rape case is back in custody on probation violations.
Hudson Lee Lipner Sheeley was accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl in 2015, when he was 33 years old. The teen told Sandpoint Police in 2016 she was being physically abused by Sheeley and another man. At the time, the teen was a runaway from Yelm, Wash., according to court documents.
Sheeley admitted to having sex with the teen and believed she was 19 at the time, a probable cause affidavit said.
Sheeley, now 35, ultimately pleaded guilty to an amended charge of felony injury to a child, court records indicate. Judge Barbara Buchanan imposed a suspended two- to four-year prison term and ordered him to serve 60 days of local incarceration.
The custodial sentence was commuted for good behavior after less than two months behind bars, court records indicate.
However, Sheeley is accused of running afoul of the terms of his probation, which prevent him being around minors, accessing the internet or social media. He was also required to obtain a polygraph examination.
Sheeley’s probation officer alleges that he violated those terms, in addition to failing to report contacts he had with law enforcement on several occasions for failing to provide proof of auto insurance.
A hearing on the alleged probation violations is set for Jan. 29 in 1st District Court.
