In just a few weeks, people from all across North Idaho and the greater Inland Northwest will head to downtown Coeur d’Alene, the city park and North Idaho College for food, arts and entertainment in the form of Art on the Green, the Downtown Street Fair and the Taste of Coeur d’Alene.

Walking between the events will provide an up close look at one of Coeur d’Alene’s more charming and desirable neighborhoods. Lush with shade-throwing trees and a mix of classic homes, gorgeous remodels and some new construction, the Fort Ground area sits at the heart of what makes Coeur d’Alene such an attractive place to live.

Fort Ground, with its proximity to the city and NIC beach access to Lake Coeur d’Alene, is the place many visitors dream of staying when vacationing in North Idaho. It sits next to Memorial Field, the Coeur d’Alene City Park and is also within easy walking distance of the shops and restaurants of the downtown area. The NIC campus is there too, and it’s expanded over the years with even more options for higher learning via partnerships with the likes of the University of Idaho and Lewis-Clark State College.

The city’s nearby Four Corners project is coming together nicely near Memorial Field as well. New playground equipment was a recent addition, and the city’s brand new skateboard park is this summer’s most anticipated main attraction. Remodel and upgrade plans for Memorial Field itself are set to begin this fall.

Near the new playground and picnic area is a stretch of 10 new single family home lots. Just four lots remain as active listings along Park Drive, priced between $269,000 and $279,000.

As for existing properties, don’t expect to live in this hot spot on the cheap. Near those new lots is an almost 2,500 square-foot home with four bedrooms built just a couple years ago, now listed at $725,000.

A little more than a block up from the beach is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom, 1600+ square-foot remodeled bungalow style home listed for $689,000. Even closer to the water is a 2,000+ square-foot home with three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms boasting a sauna, large private backyard, two wood-burning fireplaces, a jacuzzi and more listed at $775,000.

Then, on the waterfront, the prices shoot up again, obviously. A lakeview, almost 5,000-square-foot California Mediterranean style home lists at $1.6 million. Take a look at the pictures and you’ll understand why.

Same goes for the 3,400-square-foot, three-bed, three-bath townhome built in 2014 listed at $1.8 million. Wait, didn’t we mention this property last week in the bit about finding the best waterfront property in North Idaho? Obviously, we want to go to there.

Of course, with the college nearby, you can also check out River Apartments on the edge of campus. And quite a few vacation rental options are available in the neighborhood, in case you can only afford to live in paradise for a short time period.
