Boaters on Flathead Lake and hikers in Glacier Park should expect gusty winds today, the National Weather Service in Missoula warned.

Winds from the northwest were expected to begin Tuesday morning and last through the evening. Sustained winds of 15-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph were anticipated.

A lake wind advisory was issued for Flathead Lake through 8 p.m. Tuesday. Waves of 1 to 2 feet are likely, with local waves up to 3 feet on the central lake and eastern shore.

“The greatest impacts will be to those recreating on area lakes, including Flathead Lake and Lake McDonald,” the Weather Service stated in its daily forecast. “Higher elevations, such as Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park, could record wind gusts up to 50 mph at times.”

A pleasant day is in the forecast for Wednesday following the passage of the front. Highs will be in the upper 70s. Thursday through Saturday will be dry and sunny.
