Independence Day 2018 was a county-wide party as locals converged on a number of events to celebrate the birthday of this great nation.

The west side of the county held celebrations in Noxon, which saw a great parade and some fun games for kids while everyone was able to get out and enjoy the great weather.

Sanders County Sheriff Tom Rummel attended the morning events in Noxon, and was asked to walk alongside some of the veterans as they took the lead in the parade.

Rummel said it was a great honor to have been asked, and he enjoyed being a part of the celebrations in Noxon, while enjoying the evening events in Paradise.

The Plains chapter of the Clark Fork Runners Club also hosted their first 5k fun run — truly kicking off the Fourth of July with some style.

The run had 49 registered runners, and according to one of the events organizers, Whitney Tanner-Spurr, it was an “awesome turnout.”

“Leading up to the run I had about 15 registered runners, so I wasn’t sure how we would go. But everyone seemed to turn out this morning, and it was really exciting to see,” said Tanner-Spurr.

Although there was an option for a one-mile short run, she said everyone participated in the 5k.

From walkers to runners, to friends getting out for a little pre-celebration fitness; there were plenty of smiles as participants crossed the finish line.
