The family of this trailer were very thankful for local members of the community who helped to patch up their trailer and brought them drinks and snacks.

The tractor trailer was driven off the road on July 5 when an oncoming vehicle towing a travel trailer was unable to get back in its lane after passing on U.S. 95, near milepost 516.

Two accidents involving tractor trailers occurred last week along U.S. 95.

On Thursday, July 5, a family was attempting to pass while towing a travel trailer at milepost 516. They were unable to get back into their lane in time and sideswiped a tractor trailer. The tractor trailer ended up in the ditch. There were no injuries.

On Saturday, July 7, at about 5:30 a.m. a DUI arrest was made when a vehicle crossed the centerline around milepost 503 and struck a tractor trailer. The driver attempted to flee the scene and was found a mile away, missing one front wheel, and had beer cans scattered around it.

“It is a reminder to use caution with the increase of traffic during the summer,” said Boundary County Sheriff Dave Kramer. “With all the different road constructions, we see people becoming more impatient, trying to pass, or get around, and ultimately it ends up in accidents a lot of the time. People are taking chances that they shouldn’t normally take.”

“We can drive from here to Sandpoint and somebody is going to pass us in a no passing zone,” said Bonners Ferry Police Chief Brian Zimmerman.

“This is a good reminder to use caution and concentrate on your driving,” said Kramer.
