KELLOGG — Kellogg’s annual streetball extravaganza, SilverHoops 3-on-3, is just around the corner and the event’s committee is excited to be hosting the event on its 25th anniversary.

The event has grown steadily over the last decade, and organizers hope to see this year’s edition on July 28-29 follow that trend as well.

Regionally, 3-on-3 basketball tournaments have grown in popularity, but aside from 3-on-3 juggernaut Hoopfest in Spokane, not many have been able to sustain themselves as long as Kellogg’s own SilverHoops.

“It’s a lot of work to put the event on, but it is definitely worth it,” SilverHoops committee member Everett Jennings said. “Over the last decade, I think we have really hit our stride and found our sweet spot for making this tournament successful.”

In Shoshone County, summer weekends are goldmines for touring the area and SilverHoops is no different.

Events like SilverHoops — or last weekend’s Blues Festival in Wallace — are great for the local economy as hotels, restaurants and retailers all see an uptick in business.

“We are one of the biggest events in the Valley each year,” Jennings said. “And considering how many of the teams are coming from out of town, the event is definitely bringing in a good amount of folks to the area for the weekend.”

The last few years have seen about half of the 120-125 participating teams come from outside the county.

What that means is about 60 teams — consisting of three to four players each, along with their friends and family members — make their way to Kellogg for the tournament.

SilverHoops is open for all players, with entering third grade being the youngest age division and 31 years old and up being the oldest.

“This is a really family friendly event that is fun for everyone,” Jennings said. “Beside just the basketball, we will have several vendors, the pool will be open. It’s just a great weekend.”

Registration for the tournament is still open, although it is now in the late registration phase.

Registration close next Wednesday, July 23.
