Each year, Trout Creek’s annual Huckleberry Festival goes on the hunt for a new logo; one created by a Sanders County local that encompasses the spirit of the festival.

This year, the winning logo was created by Kelley Torquemada. She is originally from Missoula, where her parents worked for the U.S. Forest Service; she later moved to California before returning to the Northwest parts of Montana.

Having earned her certifications in beauty therapy, Torquemada now works at a local Trout Creek business — offering a range of services to Sanders County locals.

Though she works as a beauty therapist her hobbies lie with painting and drawing in her spare time.

Torquemada paints with acrylics and said her subjects are usually comic book- or video game-style scenes and figures.

She said she learned about the logo contest from her mother, Kathy Rodriguez, and decided to enter.

Torquemada researched past logos and used that as a starting point for her submission. By the time the deadline rolled around, Torquemada had submitted four different logos for this year’s contest.

The selection committee received a total of five logos, all by local artists. The start of the 2019 logo contest began on June 15 and will run until Dec. 15 of this year.

The Huckleberry Festival encourages everyone, young or old, near and far, from every walk of life, to submit their designs by email to huckleberry_festival@yahoo.com. The following criteria need to be met:

– Artwork must be original (your design)

­­– Artwork must be photo-ready (.pdf,.cdr or .psd)

– Maximum of four colors, plus black and white
