Sweet tea and science talk in Othello Thursday

Authors and researchers of education and environmental science Eliane Thaines Bodah and Brian Bodah will be holding a sweet tea and science talk at Othello Umpqua Bank's community room at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 26 to discuss climate science and the new edition of their book, “Science, Education & The Environment.”
The book is geared in many ways toward educators, Brian said, and discusses the differences in environmental science education between the United States and Brazil, which is Eliane's home country.
Though not always the case, the U.S. often uses more experiential techniques to teach children about the environment, Brian said, whereas Brazil is restricted by safety and fiscal concerns to book-learning, despite containing some of the most bio-diverse areas in the world.
The book also deals with the broader science of climate change and the environment, updating science that has evolved in the decade since the book's first edition was published in 2008.
However, the presentation doesn't require a Ph.D., Brian said, and people of all ages are encouraged to attend, sip sweet tea and learn the latest in climate science. The format of the event is not fixed, Brian said, and attendees are welcome to discuss things that concern them.
