5 injured in Benton County collision

3 injured from Mattawa, 2 from Othello

RICHLAND — Three Mattawa residents and two Othello residents were injured in a two-vehicle collision in Benton County Sunday evening.

About 9:35 p.m. Oscar Verduzco, 46, of Othello, was driving a 2013 Ford Edge east on state Route 24 when she reportedly failed to yield the right of way and struck a 2015 Toyota Corolla driven by Gabriela Olivares Angure, 20, of Mattawa, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Verduzco and his passenger, Miriam McEwen, 32, of Othello, were injured in the collision and transported to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland for treatment. Olivares Angure and her passengers, Jesus Rangel, 23, of Mattawa, and an unidentified child, were injured in the collision. Olivares Angure was transported to Trios Health in Kennewick, Rangel was transported to Kadlec Medical Center and the child was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment.

The patrol reports the cause of the collision is under investigation and citations are pending. Troopers say alcohol and or drugs played a role in the collision.
