ROYAL CITY — Two people were injured in a three-vehicle collision near Royal City on Friday.

About 10:05 a.m. on Friday Rojelio Esteban Pineda, 24, of Othello, was driving a 2006 Nissan Altima south on Road M, about six miles west of Royal City, approaching state Route 26 when he reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the passenger side of a 2002 Toyota Camry driven by Scott Russell, 53, of Gig Harbor, who was heading east on SR-26. Russell reportedly lost control of his vehicle and entered the westbound SR-26 lanes. It is where he was struck by a 2002 Peterbilt semi-truck driven by Neftali Suarez, 54, of Prosser, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Russell’s passengers, Deanna Russell, 53, of Gig Harbor and Chloe Adrian, 20, of Gig Harbor, were the only people injured in the collision and were transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake for treatment. The patrol reports Esteban Pineda was cited for failure to yield.

Big turnout for Warden Community Days

WARDEN — Five-year-old Juan Vela Jr. sat on the curb with his head down after the Warden Community Days parade Monday morning. The young boy had arrived at the parade too late and missed out on a lot of free candy. As people were leaving the parade, much to Juan’s surprise, a passerby put a grocery bag full of candy in his lap and simply walked away without saying a word or glancing back to see the boy’s bewildered reaction.
