MOSES LAKE — Alcohol reportedly played a role in a fatal collision near Moses Lake Wednesday night that left a Moses Lake man dead.

About 5 p.m. Justin Derricott, 29, of Moses Lake, was reportedly driving a 2004 Nissan 300X west on Road 9 Northeast, about a .5 miles west of Road K Northeast, at a high speed when the vehicle reached the end of the paved road. The Nissan reportedly struck an embankment and rolled, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

Mitchell Franz, 28, of Moses Lake, was a passenger in the Nissan and died at the scene of the collision. Derricott was transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake for treatment. Franz’s body is in the care of the Grant County Coroner's Office, where an autopsy will be performed. A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds for Franz’s family. The sheriff’s office reports high speed and alcohol played a role in the collision. Charges against Derricott are pending.
